New Month, New Goals!

If you've been following us for a while, you know we're obsessed with creating goals for ourselves and for helping you create goals for yourself. And the beginning of the month is a great opportunity for you to sit down and write down some goals you would like to achieve this month.

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

I encourage you to grab a pen and your journal so you can write down some goals you would like to accomplish this month. As you write them out, make sure they are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound.

I'll share a few of my goals so you can see how I make them SMART.

My August Goals

  1. Get back to circadian fasting: get outside within the first 30 minutes every morning to jump start my circadian rhythm, eat breakfast when I get hungry, and finish my last meal by 6:30 PM most days.
  2. Meditate first thing every morning in August.
  3. Get 1k subscribers on our Plant Chics YouTube channel by August 31, 2021.

So let's take a look at my goals and see if they are SMART.

Circadian Rhythm Goal

  • it's specific - I'm getting outside within the first 30 minutes of waking up, eating when I get hungry (usually happens anywhere between 9 - 11 AM) and finish eating my last meal of the day by 6:30 PM.
  • It's measurable - either I do all of those actions or I miss one/some/all of them.
  • It's attainable - it's a little bit of a stretch but it's doable.
  • it's pretty realistic. Finishing my last meal by 6:30 will be the hardest part for me though.
  • it's time-bound - I want to do this most every day (if not every day). I want this to be my norm, aka my lifestyle.

Meditation Goal

  • it's specific - I want to meditate first thing in the morning.
  • it's measurable - it happens or it doesn't happen. I will be lenient with this as some days I may not meditate first thing but as long as it happens, I'm counting it. I really do want meditation to be a part of my morning non-negotiable, just like brushing my teeth.
  • it's attainable, totally doable, and if it doesn't happen it's because of laziness or procrastination on my part. Ouch!
  • it's very realistic - I've done this before and I feel so much better when I meditate. So it's time to bring this goodness back into my life. I've also got a great 1 minute meditation that I adapted from Dr. Michael Gervais and Pete Carroll's book, Compete to Create. Stay tuned for a blog on this meditation!
  •  it's time-bound - these meditations will be happening every morning in August.

It's important to start small on some goals so you can build your confidence as you attain them. Once you start attaining them, you can make them bigger until you reach your big hairy audacious goals! 

The first week in August, I will start my mornings with that epic 1 minute meditation that I will be sharing with you in the next couple of days. As I master my 1 minute meditation, I will gradually add more time to my meditations.

YouTube Goal

This isn't written as a SMART goal. Let's break it down and see how I can make it SMART:

  • specific - how do I plan to grow our YouTube subscribers by 234 in 31 days? Easy: I need feedback from you, our Tribe. I need to find out what content you want to see from us, from me specifically, and from Marzia. Then we need to create said content and post those videos. So, my darling reader, what content do you want to see from us? Please email us and lettuce know! And please subscribe to our YouTube and share our channel with your friends! 
  • it is measurable - our YouTube subscribers are visible to everyone and you can see how many subscribers we have at any time.
  • is it attainable? It is attainable, but is it realistic? I'd like to think it is, but I tend to live in a dream world at times, so idk...Regardless, it is a stretch. But I like to challenge myself with these stretch goals...
  • It's time-bound: I want this to happen by August 31st.

So, let's make my YouTube crazy stretch goal SMART:

By August 31st, we will have 1k YouTube subscribers by finding out from our Tribe what content they want and posting a minimum of 1 video/week on said topics.

I will further break this big hairy audacious goal into smaller bite size pieces every week.

We basically need 60 new subscribers every week, so I will write out another "smaller" goal for the week on how we can make that happen. Hopefully you will join us for Goal Call Monday to hear that goal!
