A study recently published in the journal, Gut, found that individuals who consumed a predominantly whole foods, plant-based diet had lower odds of getting Covid-19, and if they did get Covid-19, it was generally less severe compared to people who consumed the least healthful diets.
You would think this makes sense, but so many people don't realize the importance food plays in overall health.
But food isn't the end-all, be-all.
Good health needs several factors for a solid foundation:
We're going to break this down and keep it super simple, because what we really need to do is take our lifestyle back-to-basics.
Here are some simple items to remember when grocery shopping:
September is National Yoga Month. And I did something that I haven't done since the world locked down: I joined a yoga studio and I practiced yoga IRL with people. And it felt amazing!
There is something so wonderful about practicing in a studio where you can be adjusted and feel the energy of everyone practicing in the room.
Yoga is so much more than the asana - the physical practice of yoga. I did my yoga teacher training (YTT) early in my sobriety. I was already on a spiritual journey in recovery, and the YTT took my spirituality to another level.
During YTT, we had to practice yoga (asana) daily, the trainer recommended we follow a vegan or vegetarian diet (to practice ahimsa, non-violence) - I talk more about this in my podcast interview on Yoga is Vegan, and we had to study the Bhagavad-gita (in super simple layman's terms this is similar to a Bible or Quran), the Yoga Sutras which is all about the mind, anatomy, learn yoga postures, and so much more.

Ok, this blog is being posted a little late, but like the saying goes, better late than never, right?!!
And there's no time like the present, so it's time for me to proclaim my goals for September! I've got 4 main goals I want to work with this month, so let's get this party started.
I want my eating window to be 8 AM - 8 PM, which means I will be fasting for at least 12 hours every day. This may seem like nothing, but I always seem to snack on something around 9 or 9:30 PM. It's time for me to kick that habit.
I also want to get outside first thing in the morning and get some morning sun on my body to kick start my hormones and wake my body up at the cellular level.
I've been working out most every day for the past little while. It feels good. I'd like more of my workouts to be done outside, so I will put outdoor workouts into my weekly calendar. Mornings are the best time for me to workout, but literally yesterday was crazy and...
And just like that [insert finger snap], August is coming to a close. We encourage you to start thinking of your goals for the month of September. You'll have to come back to our blog to hear our goals! Or maybe we will talk about them on Goal Call Monday....hmmmm.....
