Today, I'm sharing four different devices or health apps that help me slay my health goals and become healthier. Tune in to hear my ah-hah! moments.
We have some links and/or codes for some of these devices or apps in case you want to check any or all of them out:
Lumen - hack your metabolism. Use code PLANTCHICS to save 10%
Oura Ring - Oura has been so eye opening to me!
The supplements I doubled up on when Oura showed my body temperature was raising, indicating I could be coming down with something are the Ultimate Elixir and Ultimate Shrooms. Use code LUDeal10 to save 10% on auto shipments.
Zoe (gut health) nutrition - I totally recommend participating in the study. When you opt in to do this, you also wear a continuous blood glucose (CGM) for two weeks. You can do fun challenges, which I also highly recommend you try, to see how your body responds to different foods. It's super interesting and these helped reinforce why I eat the way I eat, and it was a...
Hi, Friend! Marzia here. I'm pretty excited to do something I've never done before.
As you know, I have been working hard on my mental well-being since the beginning of the year (longer than that really!).
I've been putting my health, sleep, and marriage as priorities in my life.
My husband is on a sabbatical and he's taking this time to recalibrate and feel better.
He's done this before and I realized that I've been working since I was 14 years old (I'm 47 now) and I've never taken any time off.
My husband and I were talking and we have decided to go on a digital detox together for the next two months.
I'm really excited to do this!
Why not? We're young, we feel good, and we're in a really great place together. And we want to enjoy more time together to completely unplug.
So my beach trip is the start of my digital detox. I'm super excited to completely unplug and I also love that Jacque is super supportive and she will be holding down Plant Chics while I take...
The incredible Dr. Laurie Marbas invited us to speak with her on the Healthy Human Revolution podcast. We love Dr. Laurie so we were super excited for this opportunity!
We share our personal stories and how we got to where we are today. It was a very windy road for both of us, and we learned some valuable lessons.
We also talk about how we met, how the name Plant Chics came about, and why we created our beloved Plant Chics Tribe.
We love that Dr. Laurie named this episode We Believe in Building a Community for Women over 40 | Plant Chics.
We are obsessed with healthy living, aging gracefully, increasing our health span, and sharing all of our knowledge with you through our Plant Chics Lifestyle.
We hope you tune in for this episode. We would love to hear your feedback!!
Lentils and lunges,
Marzia & Jacque xox
In this video, I share 3 rejuvenating tools that help you chillax. These take as little as 1 minute each and you can do them anytime, any place!
Press play to learn how sunshine can help rejuvenate you, breath work can help calm you down, and why exercise snacks are so important!
We want to hear which of these three you will implement first.
March is National Nutrition month and and I'm going to share six ways to Plant Chics out your favorite family recipes!
This year's theme for NNM is Celebrate a World of Flavors. This theme showcases how flavors from cultures around the world is a tasty way to nourish ourselves and appreciate our diversity. We are all unique with different bodies, goals, backgrounds, and tastes!
My Dad is from Mexico, and some of my favorite foods are the Mexican foods I grew up on (this is Marzia). But those foods weren't necessarily the healthiest.
I love experimenting in the kitchen and playing around with some of my favorite non-vegan dishes and making them #PlantChicsApproved.
How do I do that, you ask? I am going to share some of my go-to swaps.
March is Colon Cancer Awareness month and we are sharing four things you can do for Colon Cancer awareness. We are also going to share some staggering facts about this deadly dis-ease that doesn't have to exist.
The American Cancer Society estimates there will be over 106,000 new cases of colon cancer in 2022. Every week, over 1,000 people die from colorectal cancer, and it is the second most deadly malignancy.
Regardless of the health of your diet, it is imperative that you get a screening colonoscopy at the age of 45 or earlier if you have family history or another reason to get checked.
I have a personal story as to the importance of getting screened early (this is Jacque).
When I was 45 (this was before the colon cancer screening guidelines for non African Americans changed), I fiberslayed () and noticed there was bright red blood on the toilet paper.
I immediately called an ex-boyfriend who is a well respected Gastroenterologist. He told me not to worry...
Since this is the last week for American Heart Month, we are dedicated this blog post to your gut microbiome, which just happens to be one of our favorite topics.
The health of your gut microbiome is most significantly influenced by the foods we eat, specifically fiber (which is only found in plants - fruits, vegetables, nuts/seeds, beans/legumes, and whole grains).
But getting adequate sleep, getting out into nature, getting regular physical activity, and not sitting too long also impact the health of your gut microbiome.
Do any of these hit home for you? Or for someone you know?
If so, you know we've got you covered and we will offer some suggestions on ways to improve your gut health.

We've got 4 ways to eat for improved heart health!
Heart health is very near and dear to my heart (this is Jacque) because I have a strong family history of heart disease. And it's very near to my heart (this is Marzia) because heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the US!
These tips will be helpful if you have high cholesterol, cholesterol that has been gradually increasing, and if you have heart disease or family history of heart disease.
1. Swap out saturated fat for polyunsaturated fat. Saturated fat is found in animal foods (meat and dairy), ultra-processed foods (think packaged foods, fried foods, a lot of fast foods), coconut oil, and palm oil. Research has shown replacing saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat can help lower cholesterol which is cardioprotective.
Of course we are proponents of switching from animal proteins to plant proteins, but not all of our Plant Chics are ready to do that 100%. So we encourage you to cut back on your high fat animal...
Exercise snacks are such a fun concept. I first heard of them through Bluezones, and thought I had died and went to move-your-body heaven! haha
Think about when you eat a snack, it's usually a smaller portion. So exercise snacks are the same concept. They're exercises (or moving your body) for a short duration, like 1 - 5 minutes.
This is great on a couple levels.
A recent study showed that 15 minutes of exercise increases your short chain fatty acids (SCFA) which is good for your gut microbiome, which reduces inflammation and could help treat arthritis, cancer and heart disease. And those 15 minutes of exercise don't have to be done all at once in order to have these positive side effects.
The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that we get in at least 150 minutes per week of exercise. That can be difficult some days, but we have a solution for you: exercise snacks!
We all have smart phones, smart watches, or an Oura ring. And they all have options to notify...
